About the NEUPC Minor Works Framework

The North Eastern Universities Purchasing Consortium (NEUPC) is a collaboration among universities in the North East to ensure the efficient procurement of services and solutions. The NEUPC Minor Works Framework focuses specifically on Estates and Construction, enabling institutions to access qualified suppliers for projects ranging from minor refurbishments to significant construction initiatives.

The framework serves five prominent institutions:

  • Durham University
  • Newcastle University
  • Northumbria University
  • University of Sunderland
  • Teesside University

Arcas’ inclusion in this framework signifies its capability to meet the stringent standards required by these institutions and its commitment to enhancing the region’s educational infrastructure.

The Importance of Being Included

For Arcas Building Solutions, being part of the NEUPC framework represents an opportunity to deepen its partnerships with the academic sector. It highlights the company’s ability to deliver projects that are innovative, sustainable, and tailored to the unique needs of higher education institutions. This inclusion also aligns with Arcas’ vision to play a pivotal role in the growth and development of the North East.

Arcas’ Work with North Eastern Universities

Arcas Building Solutions has gained valuable experience in delivering exceptional projects for universities in the region. Here are some examples of its work:

  • St John’s College, Durham

Arcas Building Solutions successfully delivered a £3.4 million project to construct a new Learning Resource Centre at St John’s College. The facility includes state-of-the-art lecture and seminar rooms, a modern library housing over 27,000 books, offices, and associated amenities.

Located within Durham City’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the project presented significant logistical challenges due to its restricted location in a narrow cul-de-sac, surrounded by existing properties, however, Arcas was able to overcome these constraints through meticulous planning and execution, with all access limited to the front elevation.

The three-story building features a steel frame clad in ashlar stonework, zinc roofing, and modern metal windows. Arcas incorporated advanced systems, including extensive services and underfloor heating, to provide a comfortable and controlled environment for students. Despite initial challenges during enabling works, the project was completed successfully, enhancing the historic setting of St John’s College with a cutting-edge educational facility.

  • Northumbria University

Arcas also supported Northumbria University with the enhancement of its campus facilities, including the redevelopment of lecture theatres and communal spaces. One standout project involved the redesign of a student hub, which included creating flexible study areas, upgrading lighting systems, and improving accessibility. These efforts significantly enhanced the functionality and appeal of the campus for both students and staff.

A Vision for the Future

Arcas Building Solutions’ inclusion in the NEUPC Minor Works Framework is a significant milestone, demonstrating its capability to deliver impactful projects that align with the vision and goals of higher education institutions. By partnering with these universities, Arcas aims to contribute to the development of sustainable and inspiring spaces that will serve students, staff, and researchers for years to come.

This achievement not only reflects Arcas’ dedication to excellence but also its commitment to supporting education and innovation in the North East. The company is excited to embark on this new chapter and looks forward to collaborating with NEUPC and its member universities on future projects.
